Horse training

Training that comes to your horse.

No hauling, no hassle, no losing progress in a new environment. I come to you, anywhere within 15 miles of Syracuse, and the work is built on the Core 4 every session.

A tack wall: bridles, a coiled lariat, a halter, reins and a hat hanging on weathered barn boards.

Two ways to work together

Pick how involved you want to be.

Training only

I work your horse

Training comes to you. No hauling, no hassle, no losing progress in a new environment. Every session is built on the Core 4: Establish Physical Boundary, Clear Ask, Feel and Timing, and Connection and Consistency. A proven framework that creates real, lasting change instead of quick fixes.

Train the trainer

We work together

Do you have a horse and want some guidance in the training process? This is training and lessons in one. I work with your horse and teach you the how and why behind every step, so you leave each session knowing how to keep building the relationship and progress on your own.

Riding lessons

I teach you

Learning to ride, on the same Core 4 foundation. You are not just learning to ride, you are learning to communicate.

About lessons

The Core 4

Four things, worked in order, every time.

It is the same framework whether I am working your horse, teaching you, or both. It is also where the name comes from.

  1. I

    Establish physical boundary

Safety comes first. A horse that understands your space is a horse you can actually work with.

  2. II

    Clear ask

Asking in a way the horse can understand, so neither of you is guessing at what comes next.

  3. III

    Feel and timing

Knowing when to ask and, just as importantly, when to release. This is the part that takes time.

  4. IV

    Connection and consistency

The same answer every time, until it stops being a routine and turns into a partnership.

Being straight with you

What I don't take on.

These need a setup I don't have on a mobile program, and putting the wrong person on them is how horses and people get hurt. I'd rather point you toward someone equipped for it.

  • Colt starting. I don't start young or unbroke horses. If your horse has never been ridden, this isn't the right program.
  • Dangerous behavior. Bucking, rearing, striking or bolting is specialist work, and I don't take those horses on.
  • Boarding. Your horse stays with you. I travel out rather than taking horses in.

Tell me about your horse.

I'll call you back to talk it through. We'll go over pricing and work out how many sessions your horse needs on the call.

Best number to reach you on. I'd rather call than email.

Training is mobile, so I need to know how far out you are.

If your horse bucks, rears or has never been ridden, please say so. I don't take that work on, and I'll point you to someone who does.

I usually get back to people within 24 hours.

Thanks, that's on its way.

I'll call you back within 24 hours. If it's urgent, call me at (503) 949-9256.
